This 68% Suri alpaca 32% nylon binder yarn is brushed for a soft halo of fibers that allows you to knit it on a larger needle for a big gauge without creating a dense fabric - so it will be soft, flowing, lightweight and very insulating as the "halo" fills in the gaps of the big needle!
Each skein has 274 yards. It is recommended on anywhere from a US 3 - 8. For instance, if I wanted to knit a stuffed animal out of it, I'd choose a smaller needle for a firmer and more textured fabric. But for a cowl or scarf, I'd go with a US 8 for more drape.
You might also choose to carry this yarn along with a heavier yarn if you wanted the "brushed" texture but to knit on a US 11 - 13 you could pair this yarn with something like Cascade 220 or Homestead. In fact, the hat shown in the right sidebar was knit using 1 strand of Suri Stratus along with 1 strand of Cumbria wool by Fiber Co. There is enough yarn to knit two hats when you purchase 1 sk each of Suri Stratus and Cumbria.
Price per 274 yd (25 gm) skein: $6.99
