Eco-Duo and Highland Duo Alpacas
This lovely 70% alpaca/30% merino wool yarn knits at 4.5 sts/in on US 8-9. The web just can't do it justice.....the hand is what sells this yarn. It is silky and soft and has a wonderful weight/drape to it.
When I had the Cascade Yarn Tasting here last winter, this yarn was oohed and aahed over all night, so I knew it was a "must have" for this winter season!
The headband shown below from the side, the top and close up, took 1/2 skein of the Eco Duo, uses short rows to shape the sides and features a couple of cables in front.
The cowl shown below, uses 3 colors of the solid Highlands, but with the purchase of 3 colors you can make 3 of these. The stitch pattern came from an Icelandic newspaper a few years ago....my sister Joany modified the pattern a bit and knit one for each of the 5 of us for our trip to Iceland this past April and it was perfect. It is narrow (4"), but wraps twice around the neck(it is 46" long) so provides plenty of protection...and without a lot of bulk at the neck. The alpaca is so soft and insulating, you don't need anything thicker....it kept the chill off our necks as we faced the incredible winds and nip in the air that was still present there in the spring. The pattern is free with the yarn purchase.
Featuring 197 yards, the solids are $16.99 and the gradations are $18.99/sk
