Debbie Bliss Eco-Cotton- now just $5/sk

This lovely cotton knits at 4.5 -5 sts/inch on a US 7-8. Although it is 100% cotton, the swatch seems to hold its shape and spring back when stretched so I expect it won't droop and hang like some other "dead" cottons. It is "eco-friendly", but not organic. So what the manufacturer tells me this means (since there is no standardization in the industry about how these various terms are bantered about) is that the animals are raised and the yarn is processed in a way to do minimal or little harm to the environment. As few chemicals are used as possible to still ensure a steady supply and, when used, the safest ones are chosen. For instance, instead of using harmful chemicals for pest management when raising the sheep or growing cotton, biological methods are used instead (like spiders, they say, for controlling worms or infestations of bugs that harm the plants...I'm still researching this one). Eco-friendly on this yarn also means that the packaging materials used are from recylcled sources. Debbie Bliss' new pattern book that supports the eco-cotton is also available below. Both the cabled and lace leaf cardigans shown below are patterns from her book. The book is $18.00. The yarn has 82 yds/skein (it used to be 99 yds/skein, but the new colors this year have less yardage so if you're doing one of her patterns from the magazine or one of her books and she quotes 99 yds/skein, know that that is no longer the case - all her new colors this season came in with 82 yds/skein)
